95 | Built in 1668, this is the oldest surviving 17th century wooden mansion in New England. The House of Seven Gables was at one time owned by Hawthorne's cousin, Susanna Ingersoll, and she entertained him there often. Its seven-gabled state was known only to Hawthorne through childhood stories from his cousin and, at the time of his visits, he would have only seen three gables due to architectural renovations.
