156 | Acorn Street-In the early 19th century many wealthy families built row-houses between an on the sites of once spacious estates. Servants and tradesmen who found jobs with these families lived conveniently nearby in the smaller versions of the big, Chestnut Street mansions. Nearby Branch Street was known as Kitchen Street in the early decades of teh 1800's, contained kitchens adjacent to the rear of Beacon and Chestnut Street homes. On the left you see the entrances to the homes, which are now every bit as prestigious as those on Beacon or Chestnut and on the right you see doors to the hidden gardens of Mt. Vernon. | IMG 3647 | 10/26/10 9:13 AM | 1024x683px | 330kB | Original Image |
